Just like Daddy

>> Wednesday, June 23, 2010

I always knew that Nick would be a good dad.  He has always talked about all the fun things he wanted to do with his kids long before I was pregnant.  So I knew he would be a dad who did lots of stuff with his kids.  I just never knew how early these fun daddy son things would occur.  Once Sam was about one and a half last year they started having "boys nights out."  He took Sam to Grassphoppers games, Steak and Shake, Putt Putt.  And surprisingly enough, a PGA golf tournament.  (Somewhere they hold up "QUIET" signs might not be the best place for a toddler, but somehow it worked.).
With this said, its no wonder that all Sam's interests are just like his dad's.  And I  bet it's like that for most young boys.  But I am particularly glad that music is one of these interests that Nick is passing down to Sam.  Nick's father, Ed is a talented musician who has actually recorded some music and has a weekly opry/music hall in his hometown near New Bern, NC.  I am  even more thrilled that Nick's passion for worship music is being passed down to Sam, as I spoke of in my first post.  Since it was father's day and I want to share the pics of my boys, I thought this would be a good time.  And you better believe Ms. Arabella Grace is getting trained up in some of my favorite hobbies...but more of that in another post :)

At 5:30 in morning the two getting ready to go to a golf tournament...yes 5:30am and Sam was so excited!
These boys always have the guitars close by around our house.
Practicing their swings together
And of course what manly man wouldn't love...yard work ugh!  Have at it boys!
I couldn't ask for a more involved dad for my kids.  I am truly blessed and trying to refain from adding more adorable pictures of my boys!

Finally....I have a blog!

>> Tuesday, May 11, 2010

I've probably started a blog like 5 times before now.  I am like the super rookie blogger.  I stared blankly at the title box for several minutes and decided a better one would come to me later.  I just really wanted to start documenting some happenings in my family and share them with our friends and family, so here goes.

This first story may be old news to some of you, but I had to write it for my first post.

Most people who know my 2 year old son Sam know that he loves music.  And just like his father, Nick, he loves to play instruments and sing, mostly praise and worship music.  We gets up on stage with his dad every wed. afternoon to practice worship music down in the youth department at our church.  He always has his toy guitar and drumsticks with him.  He's like the youth band mascot.  Okay now I've set up the story.

Well, a few weeks ago was a big weekend for the youth at our church.  It's called disciple now weekend and the whole weekend is filled with whole group worship time, lectures, and small group time.  Well, I had been with my teenage girls all weekend, which I loved.  But, I hadn't seen Sam all weekend bascially.  So Sunday morning I broke him out of the nursery and he came down to the youth area with me.  This is what happened:

We ended the weekend singing " He Loves Us" by David Crowder.  This is Sam's favorite song, the song he asks to hear everytime he gets in the car.  Just before they started playing it on the guitar Arabella got figity so I moved to the back of the room .  So there I sat, legs crossed on the floor, Arabella in hand, Sam standing beside me.  He started singing his favorite song..  This had been the them song of the weekend and the youth and adults belted out the words without holding back emotion.  Some standing with arms raised, some still seated on the floor with eyes closed.  My precious two year old son stood beside me and raised his hand in worship for the first time as he sang the words he knew so well.  I sat beside him with tears of joy streaming down my face for I felt so very loved by my God as I saw my son praise Jesus.

Then....about halfway through the song, he looked at me very seriously, and said, "I need my drumsticks!"   I picked up two pens and he air drummed the rest of the song.  It was hiliarous.

Later as we walked into get lunch he said, "I had the best day mommy."

I said, "What was your favorite part?"

He said, "How He Loves and praise Jesus!" And put his arms back in the air.
I told my friend at lunch it was like God reached down and hugged my soul.
